Shikhar Dhawan will return to Delhi Daredevils 11 years after his IPL debut after he was traded by Sunrisers Hyderabad in exchange for three players: Shahbaz Nadeem, Vijay Shankar and Abhishek Sharma.
Why the trade?
Dhawan was not retained ahead of last year’s auction, in which Sunrisers bought him for INR 5.2 crores. Dhawan was reportedly not pleased with the price he was being paid by Sunrisers.
During the 2018 IPL, David Warner wasn’t a part of the Sunrisers squad after he was banned from the IPL for a period of one year due to his role in the ball-tampering scandal in Cape Town. In all likelihood, Sunrisers will regain his services for next year.
In last year’s auction, Shankar was bought for INR 3.2 crores, Nadeem also for INR 3.2 crores and Abhishek for INR 55 lakhs, equalling INR 6.95 crore.
Since Dhawan was bought for INR 5.2 crores, Sunrisers would need to pay the balance amount to Daredevils.
Dhawan has scored 2768 runs in 91 innings at an average of 35.03 and strike-rate of 125.13 for Sunrisers.
In last season’s IPL alone, Dhawan scored 497 runs at an average of 35.50.
