9 Years ago on a winter month Dec 23 2004 a guy with long hair made his debut as Indian team wicket keeper vs Bangladesh.

Before him, there were many Wicket keepers in the Indian team but nobody sustained their place likes of Saba Karim, MSK Prasad, Sameer Dighe etc.

So I thought even this guy would play a few  one day international matches and fade away and when he got out for Golden Duck in his first match.

Then the next few matches he scored 30’s and 40’s but then the real turning point in his career was when he scored 148 vs Pakistan and he smashed the ball all over the park like english movie super hero with a big bat and long hair. That century put him into the lime light.

Next big Score was 183* vs Sri Lanka and on the same year and he had hit 10 Sixes during that innings which helped  India to chase 300+ target with ease, which made him to cement his place in Indian team permanently.

In 2007 world Cup the Indian team got knocked out of the tournament in the first round and It was one of the worst moments in Indian cricket history but we never knew that knew that could bring complete turnaround to Indian team.

Yes! They had decided to send the Young team for an Inaugural T20 world cup in 2007 and it was led by M.S.Dhoni, Sources revealed that it was Sachin who recommended him for  captaincy.
We should appreciate the selection committee for this decision as it has shaped the new Indian cricket team.

Dhoni led the Young team( No Sachin, Dravid and Ganguly) to win the first world title after a long time.

It was a tough time but the Selectors took a bold decision to make Dhoni as ODI captain and he toured Australia with the young team ( Except Sachin) and they won the first tri Series in Australia by the year 2008.

2008 IPL was launched as a  luxurious premier league in the world and guess what!! Dhoni was the highest bid player in that season he was sold to CSK for 6 Cr and rest was  History as he led them to 2 Semi Final and 6 Finals and  were they won the championship twice. He also led them for Champions league title  Once.

During Australia Series he was named as Test captain and he took India to the No.1 Position first time in History of Indian Cricket and he also took Indian ODI team to No.1 Status.

Dhoni was at Peak during the year 2011 and India was playing it’s Best cricket ever, it’s time for big title,  the World cup in India instantly became everyone’s Favorite. As expected they reached Finals and it happened to be against Sri Lanka, the team they played most in recent times. India was struggling to chase 275 and Dhoni promoted himself ahead of Yuvaraj to everyone’s surprise. But he took India home with the massive Sixes scored 91 in 79 balls and that Six now featuring in every Cricket advertisements and India won their second world Cup after 28 Years where he dedicated that award to Sachin Tendulkar.

Post world cup his golden period was fading and India toured England as No.1  but they lost that series 4-0 and likewise to Australia, 4-0. He was blamed and asked to Step Down by entire cricket fraternity but you know what he said

” The easiest thing to do for me right now is to quit the captaincy and stay in the side. That’s running away from my responsibility . Of course there are others who will decide. There is BCCI and other administrative people who will look into that. For me, my responsibility is to get the team together and be prepared for the next Test match”
that showed his Character even in tough periods he was confident and he went on to lose 2-1 vs Eng in home Series.

But like phoenix bird he raised from Ashes he went on to wash out the Australians 4-0 and this was the first time India won 4 matches in a Test series and he is the 2nd captain in the world to do so to the Australian team making it an achievement.

He also led India to Champions trophy and the only captain to win T20WC, ICCWC and ICC CT.
