India has been let down again by their batsmen in the ongoing test series against England which resulted in 60 runs victory to the home side and helped to clinch the series in Southampton by 3-1 in a five-match series.
Where did exactly India go wrong?
India had played some best cricket in England though being 3-1 down. Had to mention the pace trio Ishant, Bumrah and Shami bowling with fiery pace and troubling English batsmen constantly with their line and lengths. They had done something which past touring bowlers struggled to do, they have chirped England 20 wickets in every match except at the lords in the 2nd test. Bowling has been a huge plus for Indians this series whereas the worrisome has been their batting
Openers are crucial in overseas especially when the ball is doing much they should really negate the new ball and make it easy for coming batsmen which didn’t happen this series barring the second test. Highest score by an opener in the entire series is 44 that sums up how miserably they failed to give a good start. Might expect the change in the opening combination for final test match
India had good partnerships in between but all are around Kohli if he is not in the middle then you could expect the rest to fall like a pack of cards. Pujara and Rahane had played crucial knocks but in vain due to lack of partnerships from others. Lower middle is clueless Pant is not effective, Pandya is not reliable when your no.6 and no.7 is not capable of hanging in there and contributing in partnerships there is no way you going to end up with good score eventhough you had very good starts.
All-rounder or Extra Batsmen:
Hardik pandya bowled brilliantly and batted well in the third test but performing once in entire series and failing badly in the rest is not going to cause good for any team on the other side england having brilliant all-rounders like stokes, curran, ali and woakes each of them contributing atleast in one or more matches. Indian think tank should analyse whether to continue with hardik pandya or to play an extra batsmen in the name of Karun Nair.
India expected to make some changes for the final test may be a debutant is ready to open the batting and Jadeja might comeback in place of Hardik/Ashwin depending on pitch and fitness.
