Australian Matthew Kelly, a member of Perth Scorchers in BBL, has been called in by Kolkata Knight Riders as a replacement for Anrich Nortje, the South African pacer. Nortje had earlier withdrawn citing a shoulder injury, and had not participated in any games for his IPL side.
The Kolkata franchise had suffered their fair share of injuries even before the commencement of the league. Young pacers Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti had been ruled out, and were replaced by Sandeep Warrier and KC Cariappa.
However, Nortje’s replacement was trickier for the franchise, as they had bought him for a mere 20 lakhs. This ruled out all the players listed above that price, Nortje’s selling price, as possible replacements. The newest recruit, Kelly, would be hopeful of getting a game and he would be eager to prove his worth.
