One of the most successful teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Mumbai Indians will be raring to go in the 12th edition of the IPL. The key to Mumbai Indians over the years has been all-rounders who are tailor-made for the T20 format. Whether it is the Pandya Brothers, Kieron Pollard, or the latest sensation in Ben Cutting, it always has the players who can bat at any position and situation apart from giving their captain a few overs on the field. This flexibility is always a fringe-benefit in a tournament like IPL, where the captains need to be pro-active, and not just stick to a certain plan. MI has got a very able leader in Rohit Sharma and he has been a substantial influence for the side, ever since he joined them in 2011.
Coming to this season, Mumbai Indians has almost got all of its bases covered. It has acquired the services of Quinton De Kock and Jayant Yadav from the trade window. De Kock can be a great asset at the top of the order. Mumbai will even have the services of the old-warhorse Yuvraj Singh in this edition, and his tactical acumen in this format will come in handy for the side, even if he doesn’t feature in the playing eleven.
The only concern for Mumbai is its pace department. Apart from Jasprit Bumrah, there isn’t much credibility in their attack. The form of Malinga and Milne will be crucial. Also, the team will be hoping for Hardik Pandya to strike form. The Baroda allrounder is coming off an injury and had missed the recently concluded series against Australia.
Yet, a top 4 finish is on the cards for the men in blue, and they are undoubtedly one of the top contenders to lift the coveted trophy.
