Rohit Sharma is irresistible force of the nature. I daresay he is the most destructive T20 opener currently. He has grace, power, timing, elegance – a heady cocktail transporting spectators and fans in rapturous delirium.
What an incredible knock he played even by T20 standard tonight, scoring 118 runs in just 43 balls, hitting 12 fours and 10 sixes. It was raining sixes and fours at Holkar Stadium, Indore. Rohit literally toyed with Sri Lankan bowling, hitting flurry of boundaries and sixes at will. There was no slogging, mind you. All were cricketing shots, played with finesse and incredible power. Despite scoring at a breakneck speed, he looked unruffled, composed. That’s what amazes me about Rohit. He causes so much mayhem and carnage in the opposition ranks, but himself stays calm and composed. He looked unstoppable and primed for more until he got out trying to upper cut a slower delivery over third man.
There was never any doubt on Rohit’s ability and the innate talent he is endowed with. The only question mark was over his temperament which saw him throwing away his wicket after getting starts. But that was all in the past. Now he has started translating into performance the early promise shown by him which is a good news for Team India and Indian fans. I think Mumbai Indians captaincy in IPL transformed him and he seems to have come of age which is reflecting in his performance in the current ODI and T20 series against Sri Lanka, where he is leading the side with aplomb in absence of regular captain Virat Kohli.
Rohit is master of ODI and T20. Only Test cricket to be unravelled now which he should be able to do with his newfound confidence and self-belief.
Privileged to watch an innings of sublime beauty; absolute masterclass !
Take a bow Rohit! Wish you Godspeed for an exciting career ahead !
