When and Where teams made their test debut

Getting Test cricket status is as tough as getting a medical seat in India and there are no onlineclasses to get this prestigious status. Recently Ireland and Afghanistan got this status after years of hard work.

Let’s have look on the list of countries who made test debut and when they made test debut

1.Australia

Australians made their test debut in the first ever officially recognized test match played in 1877 at Melbourne Cricket Ground against England. Australia won the match by 45 runs. The team was led by DW Gregory.

2.England

English men made their test debut like Australia in the first ever officially recognized test match in Melbourne against Australia in 1877. England lost that match by 45 runs. The team was led by James Lillywhitejnr.

3.India

Indians made their test debut in the home of cricket – Lords in the one-off test series with England in 1932. As the team was poor in all the departments they went on to lost the match by 158 runs. The team was led by CK Nayudu. After 78 years the team became the no.1 Test team in 2010.

4. Windies

West Indies later become Windies made their test debut in 1928 against England at the home of cricket – Lords. They lost the match by an innings and 58 runs. The team was led by RK Nunes.

5. Newzealand

Kiwis made their test debut in 1930 against England at Christchurch. England went on to win the match by 8 wickets. The team was led by TC Lowry.

6. SouthAfrica

South Africa became the 3rd test playing nation when England toured SouthAfrica in 1889. They played their first test match in Port Elizabeth. The team was led by Owen Robert Tunnel.

7.Pakistan

Pakistanis made their test debut against India at Delhi in 1952. They lost the match by an innings and 70 runs. The team was led by AH Kardar.

8.SriLanka

Sri Lankans made their test debut in 1982 against England in P.Saravanamuthu Stadium in Colombo. England won the match by 7 wickets. The team was led by Bandula Warnapura.

9.Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe made its test debut in 1992 against India in Harare. The match was drawn. The team was led by DL Houghton

10. Bangladesh

Bangladeshis made their test debut against India in Dhaka in 2000. India went on to win the match by 9 wickets. The team was led by Naimur Rahman.

11.Ireland

Irish men made their test debut in 2018 against Pakistan after being awarded full member status in 2017 joint with Afghanistan. Pakistan went on to win the match by 5 wickets. The team was led by Porterfield.

12.Afghanistan

Afghans are the latest team to made the test debut. They made their debut in 2017 against India in M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Unfortunately the match ended as a worst historic match for them as Indians recorded their biggest win in Test history.
